How a Daily Devotional Time Helps Me Live a Full and Fulfilled Life

Welcome back to My Full and Fulfilled Life, where we explore what it means to truly live a life that's rich in meaning and purpose.

I'm excited to share something deeply personal with you today — my daily devotional time.

Sacred Space

This time each day is more than just a habit. It's a sacred space where I connect with God. I ground myself and I find the spiritual nourishment that helps me stay centered.

Whether you're a person of faith or someone simply seeking peace and clarity, I believe there's something in this practice for everyone. You don't have to share my personal beliefs to find value in creating a quiet time for reflection and personal growth.

Pause & Recalibrate

For me, this quiet time is a way to pause and recalibrate my spirit. It's about connecting with God and reflecting on God's word. It's also about centering myself in the truth of who I am, someone created with purpose.

Psalm 119: 105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Starting my day with this practice helps me to navigate the day ahead with clarity and purpose.

Wisdom Guides

This isn't just about gaining knowledge. It's about allowing God's wisdom to guide my actions and decisions. By beginning my day with this grounding practice, I align myself with the values that I want to live by. Patience, understanding, and love. This time empowers me to face the day with a sense of peace and confidence, knowing that my worth is secure in who I was created to be.

My life is deeply rooted in faith, and I've learned that when I begin my day centered in that faith, everything else falls into place.

Spiritual Hunger

This quiet time nourishes my spiritual hunger, grounding me before the demands of the day take over. Jesus himself often withdrew to quiet places to pray. We see this in Luke 5:16, “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”

If even He needed time alone with God, how much more do I?

This isn't just about fulfilling a routine. It's about meeting a deep need within myself. Just as we need to feed our bodies, our spirits also hunger for connection, for purpose, and for meaning.

Spiritual Hunger is Universal

While my quiet time is rooted in my Christian faith, the concept of spiritual hunger is universal. We all have a spirit, and we all have a need to satisfy that spiritual hunger.

Whether you're Christian or not, finding a way to connect with something greater than yourself can bring a sense of peace and fulfillment.

In my book Ravenous to Fulfilled, I talk about the importance of feeding spiritual hunger.

It's easy to go through life feeling unsettled, distracted, or disconnected, especially when we neglect the needs of our spirit. A daily quiet time is how I address that hunger each and every day. It's a time to connect with God, to listen to God's voice, and to remind myself of the greater purpose that I'm here to fulfill.

Psalm 63:1 expresses this longing very beautifully. It says, “Oh God, you are my God. Earnestly. I seek you, my soul thirsts for you. My flesh faints for you as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” When I take the time to meet this need each morning, I find that I'm more grounded, more centered, and better equipped to face whatever comes my way during the day.

More Coming

This is the first blog post in a series about creating a daily devotional quiet time. In the upcoming posts (and their accompanying videos), I'll be sharing more about the different places where I spend my quiet time, the specific practices that I include, and how I organize and reflect on what I learn in them. Each of these aspects plays a key role in making my quiet time meaningful and impactful.

Whether you're looking to start your own quiet time routine. or to deepen an existing one, I hope these insights will inspire you to create something that truly nourishes your spirit.

Make It Your Own

Now I've learned that everyone's quiet time is going to look a little different because mine is mine and yours is yours. The beauty of quiet time is its flexibility and its personal nature.

Whether you're connecting with God, with nature, or simply with yourself, the important thing is to create space where you can be still, reflect, and grow.

Don't be afraid to try new things, whether it's finding a different location, reading a new book, trying out a new spiritual practice, or changing the time of day when you do it.

Give different things a try and see how they feel. Then you can decide how If that practice helps you find the peace and clarity that you're seeking.

Philippians 4:7 says, “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Share Your Sacred Space

Now that I've shared a bit about my quiet time, I'd love to hear from you.
